Eswau Huppeday Lodge #560

Elogamgussit -- December 1999

Dixie Fellowship

It’s time for Dixie pre-registration. This event is a must for Dance team, Ceremonies team, Individual Indian dancers and Patch Traders. Dixie Fellowship will be April 14-16, 2000, and pre-registration must be returned by January 14, 2000. Pre-registration is limited, so if you plan to go, get your stuff in before the deadline.

The Chief's Corner

I would like to thank everyone who went to and supported our Lodge at Arrowtech. Eswau Huppeday had one of the highest number of people attending. I feel our Lodge is going to start the new millennium very strongly, and be represented very strongly at all the next year’s events. Make sure you get your $21.00 Dixie Fellowship Registration in to Mr. Slade as soon as you can to insure your spot at Dixie 2000. I hope everyone has a safe and happy holiday.

--Dustin Drennan

Winter Banquet

On January 8, 2000, Winter Banquet will be at 6:00 PM at the First United Methodist Church in Gastonia. This event is a family event where we give out awards and recognize outstanding Arrowmen during the past year. We also give out the famous Nabby Awards. If you would like to attend, please send $13.00 per person to Joe Slade.

Lodge Dues

Y2K is Here! Your 2000 Lodge dues, that is. If the mailing label on this issue does not say dues paid 2000, you need to send $7.00 immediately to: Eswau Huppeday Lodge c/o Joe Slade, 3300 Gardner Park Drive, Gastonia, NC 28054. This will give you all lodge benefits and a 1 year subscription to the Elogamgussit.

2000 Lodge Goals

At LLDC the lodge made goals for the upcoming year. They are:

  • Have a plan for each lodge event 1 month before each event.
  • Articles in six issues, calendar in all issues
  • Have a suggestion box at each event
  • Have a positive growth at all events
  • Review lodge goals at Spring Fellowship
  • Qualify for Honor Lodge
  • Have each committee chairman make a list of all members on their committee
  • Have a better plan to win Dixie Spirit award.
  • Financial and physical completion of the OA camp fire ring.
  • Make a $2,500 donation to camp and 2,500 hours of service.
  • Promote the OA Troop Representative program and compile a list of all of them in the Council.
  • Re-publish Service to America plan into Smoke Signals.
  • Keep Website up to date.
  • Go to NOAC on a nice bus.

For these goals to work we need all our Arrowmen’s support. Come to as many events as possible and do your part.

Training Committee

The first new LLDC of Eswau Huppeday went well. The usual training sessions were conducted as well as some new ones (Unit Elections, OA Troop Representative, and Adviser Training). The Advisers and Chairmen sat down and discussed what they expected from each other this year. The Lodge and Committees also set goals for the 1999-2000 year. I would also like to extend special thanks to all the Lodge members who were instructors at LLDC.

Section SR-5 Report

As you know, the Dixie Fellowship is coming closer, and Eswau Huppeday is preparing for competitions in many areas. BUT this year, we want to compete in everything possible! This includes Dance, both individual and team, Drum, Ceremonies, Lodge Planbook, Lodge Newsletter, Where to Go Camping Book, Lodge Display, Training, Quest, and the Totem Pole. In past years, we have focused on a few of those items, and have succeeded in some and failed in others. For our Lodge to be noticed at Dixie, we need to do more than Dance and Ceremonies. If anyone wants to help with any of the above items, please contact Activities Chairman Kenneth Pekarek. These competitions are what makes the Dixie fun, so if we don’t plan on partaking in these competitions, why even go to Dixie? (Other than to trade patches...) Let's get our act together, get our teams made up and go to Dixie with a new style!

Note from the Editor

Hi, I would personally like to thank everyone who went to LLDC and Arrowtech to get trained. These were good training events and I hope everyone who went got some valuable information. If you have any information concerning Chapter reports and Committee reports, please send it to: elogam@aol.com. This is a special e-mail address for Elogam articles. If you don’t have e-mail then send it to: Thomas White, 121 Old Stage Ln. Mooresville, NC, 28117.

Cody's New Addition

Congratulations to Jenny and David Cody on the birth of their first son, Dylan Chase Cody. He was a month early and weighed in at 5 lbs. and 14 oz. He hasn’t traded any patches yet, but he has his first GI Joe. Jenny has done very well and Dylan has been well behaved, so Jenny and David could go out.

Carolinas' Indian Seminar

The Carolinas' Indian Seminar is just around the corner. Jeff Whisenant is working hard to make this event a success. For those of you who do not know, the CIS is a yearly event sponsored by our lodge, and is nationally recognized. If you would like to help, hurry and send in the Lodge registration form that Jeff mailed out before Fall Fellowship. If you did not get yours, contact Jeff at jafowiz@twave.net. The Carolinas' Indian Seminar will be held on January 21-23, 2000 at Mitchell Community College Continuing Education Center in Statesville.
