Eswau Huppeday Lodge #560

Elogamgussit -- March 2000

Upcoming Events

Spring Fellowship

  • Spring Fellowship will be March 24-26. This is a fun event where brothers come and compete with other Chapters in the quest for the Golden Arrow. There are also training sessions on different subjects. The price for this event is $14.00.

April Beaver Day

  • Our second Beaver Day will be on April 1. At the last one we had an exceptional turnout and we got all the work projects done in plenty of time. We would like to see more at this one. Everybody please come and help us work to get ready for summer camp.

April Ordeal

  • April Ordeal will be April 28-30. There is no June Ordeal due to National Camp School at Bud Schiele this year. This is a work weekend and we need brothers to come help with work projects and to be elangomats. The fee for the event is $10 for Brothers and $25 for Ordeal candidates. If you are going for your Brotherhood then add an additional $9.00.

May Ordeal

  • May Ordeal will be May 19-21. Lodge Officer elections will be this weekend so everyone needs to be at this event to vote for whom they want to run the Lodge in 2000-2001. We also need Brothers to work and be Elangomats. The fees are the same as April Ordeal.

NOAC 2000

  • We have 8 extra youth spots for NOAC left. We got the extra spots so no adults that have signed up for NOAC are booted off. If we do not fill up these spots, then we will have to boot out some adults. Please sign up for NOAC and help us fill up these spots.

Chapter and Committee Reports

Dance Team

  • We stayed the Friday night of March Beaver Day and finished work on our bustles. We are in good shape as long as we continue working.
    --Robert White

Cook Team

  • We need new members and meal ideas.
    --Paul Sisk

Ceremonies Team

  • We currently are meeting on the 2nd and 4th Thursday of every month. We have 4 members for the Pre-Ordeal team and 4 members for a Brotherhood team. If you were a member of 1998 Dance Team or have Cherokee regalia that you do not use anymore then the Ceremonies team could use it. If you donate the basic parts (shirt, coat, leggings, breech clout, moccasins, and finger weaving, you do not have to donate a bandoleer bag but we will take it) then you will get the very hard to earn and nice Ceremonies Team back patch.
    --David Blankenship

Activities

  • Dixie is coming up fast, and this year we hope to bring with us a lot of spirit. For us to have massive amounts of spirit, we must have two things, ideas and people willing to be a part of those ideas. I know there are many creative people reading this, so if you could spend five minutes and come up with one idea for Dixie we would be appreciative. If everyone comes up with one idea, we will be overwhelmed with spectacular ideas for Lodge spirit.

Which leads me to my second point, NOAC is also coming over the horizon. At the March Beaver Day it was decided that all Lodge flap designs must be turned in NO LATER than the April Ordeal if they are to be considered. So let's have everybody put on their "thinking cap" so we can be the best Lodge possible. Thank you, and remember you cannot complain if you did not help!!!
    --Kenneth Pekarek

Communications

  • I would like to thank everyone who came out to work at the March Beaver Day. We had a huge turn out and everything got done early. I hope to see even more at the April Beaver Day. If you are a Chapter Chief or a Committee Chairman and you would like to put in a report, e-mail me at: Elogam@aol.com or mail it to: 121 Old Stage Ln. Mooresville, NC 28117
    --Thomas White

Oconoluftee Chapter

  • On Sunday, January 16, the spherically inclined among the Oconoluftee Chapter, and some who were not, met at Pin Station for some bowling. The 18th "Sometimes" Annual Gutterball Regatta was the site of fierce competition, fulfilled hopes and crushed dreams. The champion of the youth division was Brian Barrett. The adult winner was Brian Williams. The "Brian Streak" was broken by Joe Black who won (?) The infamous "Guttermaster" Award and nearly broke the lane floor. Each of the winners, and Joe, received a Cedar Award, which can be worn as a patch.
    --A.B. Watac

Lowaneu Watchsheu Chapter

  • We will meet on March 16 at Philadelphia Lutheran Church in Granite Falls. We will have a callout ceremony for the Foothills District at the Camporee area, on April 1. We are asking the ceremonies team and the dance team to participate at our callout.
    --Paul Sisk

ATTENTION PARENTS AND SCOUTMASTERS

If you are picking up boys after OA events held at Camp Bud Schiele, please be sure to pick them up before 12 noon on Sunday. The campmaster would like to be able to go home and have Sunday lunch with his family. If your Scout is late being picked up, he may accidentally become locked in if the campmaster does not see him. Please remember that adult leaders are volunteers and have a life outside Scouting too.

Restricted Activities Patches

At the April Beaver Day business meeting the Activities patches for the upcoming events were put on a sales restriction. The patch has four parts, a round center piece and three feather shaped patches for the three events. At the first event you go to this year you will get the round piece and the feather shaped patch for the event. At the other two events you will get the other feathers for that event. The restriction is that you can only get one patch for each event you go to and you cannot buy extras until after Winter Banquet 2000.

To dream and strive for those dreams. To enjoy victory and grow stronger form defeat. To live life to its fullest and fill other lives with joy.......that’s success!"

--Steve Young

The difference between a successful man and others is not a lack of strength, not a lack of knowledge, but rather a lack of will."
